Public meeting gives unanimous support to save our Barry Crown Post Office
At a well-attended public meeting at Barry Memorial Hall yesterday evening, there was unanimous support for the campaign to save Barry Crown Post Office from closure.
Chaired by Jane Hutt AM, the meeting heard from members of the public as well as representatives of organisations and businesses. Chris Roche of the Communications Workers Union also addressed the meeting.
Attendees heard about the devastating impact closure of the Barry Crown Post Office would have on older and disabled people and local businesses. The excellent services provided by the skilled and experienced post office staff were praised as well as the accessible facilities in the centrally located office, situated near pensioners’ flats, the Vale Council, Job Centre and Barry Town Council.
With the formal consultation closing on June 8th , the meeting agreed to respond to the consultation and attend a forum organised at short notice by the Post Office next Monday 23rd May at the Masonic Hall 6-8pm.
Jane Hutt said:
” I urge everyone to respond to the consultation before 8th June – please contact my office for copies of my statement and the consultation questions (01446 740981 / jane.hutt@assembly.wales) and make your views known at the Post Office Forum next week.
Barry is the largest and expanding town in Wales and we cannot and must not let our Crown Post Office close.”
