Last week, Jane Hutt visited a ‘Food and Fun’ School Holiday Enrichment Programme (SHEP) at Barry Comprehensive and Bryn Hafren. The SHEP initiative is a multi-agency programme, developed by the Food Cardiff partnership, to provide healthy meals, nutrition education and physical activity sessions to children in areas of deprivation during the school holidays.
Organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council Schools and Catering Service, with support from Communities First, Public Health Wales and student volunteers, the ‘Food and Fun ‘ scheme at Barry Comprehensive and Bryn Hafren has been a great success, with financial support from the Welsh Government.
Jane Hutt AM visited both schools during the 3 week scheme and met staff, volunteers and pupils who were learning about nutrition in a fun way, eating healthy meals and taking exercise through sport, dance and orienteering.
Jane Hutt said:
“This is a great way to enjoy school holidays; having fun learning about food and eating healthily. Well done to all those involved in making this brilliant scheme so successful.”
