Vale AM Jane Hutt caught up with the volunteers who are working hard to establish Woody’s Lodge as a unique new community centre for armed service veterans at HMS Cambria in Barry.
The centre, named after Paul Woodland a young veteran from Penarth who died in a tragic training accident in the services, is designed to provide a quiet, secure and safe space for veterans in need. Jane is holding an event about Woody’s Lodge in the Senedd in January.
Jane said: “The centre is really coming together. It is already helping veterans in need. Some of the veterans who have used already have described it as being a place of kindness, laughter and sense of purpose.”
It is anticipated Woody’s Lodge will annually provide 2000 agency/client meetings and 2000 hours of social, befriending/learning time.
