Vale AM Jane Hutt joined representatives of Vale for Africa at an event at the Senedd held to mark Africa Day. The Vale-based charity was one of a number of organisations to join the celebrations.

Vale for Africa works in the Tororo district of Uganda to improve healthcare and education. It is a member of the ground-breaking Wales for Africa programme of more than 100 charities that work to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Jane said: ‘Vale for Africa does great work. I am delighted that in the week we have seen the atrocities in Manchester that have sought to divide us that we can come together to celebrate the Wales for Africa programme which supports communities like Tororo. An Eye Care Team from Barry is going out to Uganda with support from Hub Cymru.’

Africa Day commemorates the founding of the African Union on 25 May 1963
