AMs meet WASPI campaigners
On July 19th, Jane Hutt AM, Vikki Howells AM, Jayne Bryant AM and Hefin David AM met Sue Jarman and Kay Clarke from the Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign (WASPI).
The AMs discussed ways they could offer their support to this campaign , which is fighting for fair transitional pension arrangements for women born in the 1950s affected by the changes to the State Pension Law.
Jane Hutt said:
“ I fully support the WASPI campaigners-who have highlighted the unfair changes made to women’s state pensions in the UK Government’s Pension Acts. They have raised concerns about a lack of notification of these pension changes which has forced many women born in the 1950s, into hardship. I hosted an event in Barry earlier this year which was attended by women who are affected by these changes -representing the thousands who are affected across Wales and the rest of the UK. The WASPI campaigners will not ‘buzz off’, and the UK Government needs to respond to their call for fair and just transitional. Here in Wales, we are fully behind this important campaign and we had a positive and constructive discussion about the ways in which we can lend our support and urge the UK Government to address this injustice. ”
