Jane’s Tribute to Sid Lye

It is with great sadness that I make this tribute to Sid Lye,  who has died aged 82. He was the beloved husband of Sheila Lye and friend to so many in Barry. Sid was best known as an accomplished organist playing for over 30 years at Windsor United Reform Church  and playing at Adams for 10 years, following his retirement as a printer at the Western Mail and Echo. He played on organs all over the UK including the St. David’s Hall organ which meant a great deal to him. Sid also sang with Sheila in the Barry Community Choir (formerly Barry Choral Society).

My last memory of Sid singing with the Choir was at the Jo Cox event I organised at the Academy Coffee House in June, in memory of the late MP. He was an exceptionally gifted, thoughtful and kind person whom I was privileged to know. Our love and deepest sympathies are with Sheila, family and friends.
