I visited the new social enterprise Awesome.Wales shop on Holton Road, Barry, to meet co-owner Amy Greenfield. Awesome Wales has received funding from the Wales Council for Voluntary Action Social Business Group Fund, and a loan from the European Regional Development Fund through the Development Bank of Wales and Investment Cymru. They are also working with the Princes Trust, local entrepreneurs and students, food coops and local suppliers.
I really enjoyed the visit and it was great to meet Amy, and to hear about the work they are doing to make the shop a real hub for the community, with workshops and meeting spaces, and displays by local artists. Providing somewhere for people to refill and reuse containers and bottles with everything from cleaning products to dried foods, spices and fruit is incredibly important, and a great way to reduce plastic waste and save money. Congratulations to Amy and Stewart on all their hard work!
